Present at the
destruction

A larger Australia — ten years on

SYDNEY | LOWY INSTITUTE

WEDNESDAY 19 NOVEMBER  1:00 - 2:00 PM AEDT

In 2015, the Lowy Institute’s Executive Director, Dr Michael Fullilove, was invited to deliver the ABC’s Boyer Lectures. Titled A larger Australia, the series was a bold call for Australia to adopt a more ambitious and international outlook, and to strengthen the domestic political foundations needed to support a confident, outward-facing foreign policy. He delivered the first of his four lectures, Present at the destruction, at Peking University.

A decade on, we return to the themes of that lecture series — foreign policy, leadership, national confidence, and Australia’s place in a contested region.

Join us for a special event in which Dr Fullilove revisits his 2015 Boyer Lectures and asks how far we have come — and how far we still have to go.

Dr Fullilove will be joined by Susannah Patton, Deputy Research Director at the Lowy Institute, to discuss the ideas behind A larger Australia and what they mean today. Q&A.
